Learning from each other: Visit from Maynooth to the University of Graz

At the end of November, Stephen Carroll from the University of Maynooth travelled to Graz to exchange ideas with experts from our university.

Arqus thrives on inter-university collaboration. However, this not only includes joint projects, events and ideas, but also the exchange between experts from the nine universities. During a visit from Ireland to the University of Graz last week, the focus was on both: collaboration on a specific project and an exchange about working with young researchers.

Stephen Carroll, Postgraduate Research Development Officer at the University of Maynooth, visited the Graz campus on 27 and 28 November. The reason for Stephen Carroll's trip: The sixth edition of the Arqus PhD Week for Careers beyond academia, which will take place at his university in the summer semester of 2026.

Two days, many programme items

Together with Maria Heinemann(WG-7-Co-Lead) and Gerald Lind (WG7 and Deputy Head Research Careers Campus), the highlights and learnings from the past Career Weeks were analysed and final ideas for the upcoming one were collected. Stephen Carroll gained additional insight into the work of WG7 by participating in an online training session as part of the mentoring programme.

There was also an intensive exchange about working with doctoral students, with a focus on supporting young researchers. The programme also included getting to know the University of Graz - including a tour of the campus.
