Arqus in one minute
The European University Alliance Arqus, consisting of the universities of Granada, Graz, Leipzig, Lyon 1, Maynooth, Minho, Padua, Vilnius and Wrocław, brings together nine universities that work together to improve research, study, teaching and social engagement.
The name of the alliance is derived from the Latin term "arcus/arquus", which means arch. This name represents the bridges that the Alliance is building towards a common future in order to respond to global societal challenges and deepen European unity.
Common challenges
Under the overarching theme “Arqus for Democracy (European Values)”, the Alliance’s long-term strategy focuses on four key priority areas: Climate Change & Sustainable Development, Responsible Artificial Intelligence & Digital Transformation, Europe as a Global Actor, and Health, all of which are represented in the Alliance’s central Academic Hubs. Building on these flagship initiatives, a diverse range of activities and formats is being developed across six development focus areas to respond to today’s European and global challenges.
