Event tip: Arqus workshop on Romance minority languages

Veranstaltungsflyer

General exchange and joint brainstorming: This is what the workshop "Romance minority languages in Italy...and Italian as minority language" aims to provide space for.

The workshop "Romance minority languages in Italy...and Italian as minority language" is part of the Bottom Up Initiative Beyond majority languages: research dissemination and teaching promotion of minority and minoritised languages in Europe, organised by the ARQUS International Forum on Romance Studies (AIFRS) and funded by the ARQUS University Alliance.

The workshop takes place in an innovative format and combines a third mission with academic exchange. It thus brings together a threefold target audience: experts, students and the general public.

Programme

The workshop is divided into a general public part on 8 October 2025 and a scientific part on 9 October 2025 (scientific workshop). The general public part will take place in the format of a round table, during which various selected Romance minority languages and dialects in Italy will be presented and discussed by the participants in terms of status (political and among speakers), vitality and transmission to the next generation.

The second part will be dedicated to the presentation and discussion of the current (mainly linguistic) research of the workshop participants on Italian minority languages and dialects. With regard to the contributions, the workshop is open to theory. Formal, corpus-based, philological, quantitative approaches etc. (diachronic and synchronic) are equally welcome. Pertinent, essentially non-linguistic, anthropological, cultural studies and historical contributions etc. are also possible.

The workshop is intended to provide as broad a basis as possible for discussions of all kinds, and the type of contributions can therefore be wide-ranging.
