Training Session on MOOCs in Higher Education

teching innovation workshop

A two-part training session with top-notch insights and guidance led by the expert trainers Nadine Linschinger and Barbora Orlická from the University of Graz.

As online education continues to transform the academic landscape, the demand for high-quality Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) is at an all-time high. To equip educators and instructional designers with the necessary tools to succeed in this changing environment, the Arqus alliance invites participants to join a two-part online training programme titled “Creating MOOCs in Higher Education.”

Led by the expert trainers Nadine Linschinger and Barbora Orlická, from the University of Graz, this course is designed to equip participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills to design and implement MOOCs that truly engage learners. The sessions will take place online, offering flexibility while delivering top-notch insights and guidance.

Why MOOCs matter

MOOCs have transformed how education is delivered and accessed, enabling institutions to reach a global audience while promoting lifelong learning. However, creating an effective MOOC requires more than just technical expertise. It demands thoughtful instructional design, learner-centric strategies, and practical implementation skills.

This training aims to demystify the process of designing and developing MOOCs, making it accessible to educators, course designers and higher education professionals.

What will you learn?

Participants will leave with a clear understanding of how to:

  • Explain the concept, purpose, and types of MOOCs in higher education.
  • Identify key components of instructional design for effective MOOCs.
  • Develop a structured plan (outline) for your own MOOC.
  • Evaluate strategies for engaging learners and providing effective feedback.
  • Take the first steps toward creating learning materials for a MOOC (e.g., videos, quizzes, or texts).
