The Vice Rector for Internationalization Mireille Van Poppel welcomed the ten participants in the Joint Masters program on October 9th: “To understand Europe, you have to look beyond the borders of your own country. The new “European Studies” course makes exactly that possible. The Arqus network simplifies access to other universities. We are pleased to be part of this community as a university and to contribute our expertise.”

The new, English-language master's program is dedicated to problems such as the role of Europe in current world politics or the effects of global developments on the continent. What's special: Students at the University of Graz can complete their studies at universities in four countries. In addition to Austria (Graz), these are Spain (Granada), Lithuania (Vilnius) and Germany (Leipzig). The course ends with the title “Master of Arts”, which all four universities award jointly. The University of Graz offers expertise in the areas of Southeast Europe, peace, migration and climate change as well as dealing with diversity in our societies.

The Joint Master was created under the umbrella of Arqus, an alliance of nine European universities. As a special “treat”, in addition to the regular stays abroad, participants can complete an exchange semester and/or an internship at one of the five universities that are not part of the Joint Master consortium: Lyon 1 (France), Maynooth (Ireland), Minho (Portugal), Padua (Italy) and Wroclaw (Poland). For physical mobility, students can apply for an Erasmus+ scholarship, which covers the increased living costs.
