"AI and Society": Virtual Mobility option for Arqus students

Gruppe von Studierenden

Do you want to understand how artificial intelligence works and spice up your degree programme with a special qualification? At the University of Graz you will learn all this in the additional module "Artificial Intelligence and Society". At the end, you will not only receive 16 ECTS credits, but also an internationally recognised certificate for the skills you have acquired. As a student at an Arqus university, you can easily participate via virtual mobility.

Ask ChatGPT how long a day on Jupiter actually lasts, or have Canva create a picture of a dancing penguin on a surfboard: Anyone can do a bit of AI - surely you can too! But to really understand what's behind AI systems and what social elements need to be considered when using or designing such technologies, you need more extensive skills and abilities. And that's exactly what you'll get at the University of Graz! In the additional module "Artificial Intelligence and Society", you will learn everything you need to be able to work with AI in a meaningful and future-proof way.

The best thing about it: you don't have to be studying in Graz to take part in the additional module. All Arqus students can register for the module and complete the courses online! So you can take part no matter where you are spending the next two semesters. You will gain a future-oriented additional qualification to your studies, gain mobility experience in a multinational classroom and receive an internationally recognised certificate

Here's everything you need to know:

Who can take part?

The programme is for all students at the University of Graz and all incoming students who are currently spending a semester abroad in Graz. But also all students of the Arqus universities can participate digitally as part of a virtual mobility programme.

What is virtual mobility?

Virtual mobility means that you take modules at another university for a certain period of time. With virtual mobility you don't  have to be at the university itself, because the university holds the courses digitally.

Do I have to speak German to participate?

The courses are offered in German and English.

How much does it cost to take part?

Good news: Participation is free of charge for all students!

What can I learn?

You will be offered a mix of theory and practice in three modules. This includes learning the basics of a programming language, analysing different AI models and preparing data sets for AI applications. You will also get to know the basics of various learning algorithms. And you will learn about the legal and ethical issues that form the framework for the application and development of artificial intelligence.

OVERVIEW

MODULE A: BASICS

MODULE B: APPLICATION

MODULE C: IMPLEMENTATION

When do the courses take place?

The courses are held the winter and summer semesters. Participation always begins at the start of the winter semester, as the courses in the summer semester build on the knowledge acquired in the autumn/winter. The modules are completed after two semesters.

Where do the courses take place?

All courses are offered online. This means that you do not have to spend a semester abroad in Graz in order to participate! All courses can be completed through digital participation. This not only makes participation easier, but also gives you the opportunity to gain a little "abroad experience" from home.

How does participation pay off for me?

Of course, you will acquire a wide range of knowledge about AI through the courses, which will not only be useful to you in everyday life, but also in your professional future. But that's not all: after completing all modules, you will receive 16 ECTS . In addition, all participants will receive a recognised certificate at the end, which will make your acquired skills visible for your CV or job interviews.

How do I register?

Registration is possible until June 27 via this link.  Further information can be found HERE.
