The lecture series "A Journey Through Artificial Intelligence" is about to start

Poster zum Event

What can AI do? And what should I know about it? The answers are here: The Arqus Artificial Intelligence and Digital Transformation (AI&DT) Living Lab is launching the second edition of its lecture series on artificial intelligence.

You don't have to be an expert or a scientist to understand something here: All kinds of topics relating to artificial intelligence are explained simply and comprehensibly in English as part of the lecture series. All sessions can be experienced live on site or online. The topics range from historical aspects and ethical issues to the practical implementation of AI.

Session 1: What is hidden in the Blackbox? Explainable Artificial Intelligence

4 June 2025; 16:00 (CEST)

Although artificial intelligence is handling more and more tasks and becoming more and more powerful, human understanding of these models and thus trust in them is still limited. In this presentation, Klaudia Balcer will show how XAI helps to create high-quality and explainable models in the different phases of a data science project.

Session 2: Artificial Intelligence and creativity in music

12 June 2025; 14:00 (CEST)

In music, the term artificial intelligence may only make you think of the automatic generation of music by a computer. But what does this term really mean? How does the scientific community of computer music understand the topic of AI in music? And can't we also see these new technologies as a springboard for artistic creativity? This lecture will use concrete examples to show how AI works in music. The focus will be on automatic musical transcription (reading music) and timbre transfer (controlling one virtual instrument with another).

Session 3: Artificial Intelligence and Cybersecurity

25 June 2025; 14:00 (CEST)

This talk aims to raise awareness of the key cyber security challenges and the role of artificial intelligence (AI). Using simple examples, we will explore how AI is both a powerful tool for the defence of systems and an emerging threat vector, particularly with AI-generated phishing and fake websites. The goal is to spark curiosity and illustrate the importance of staying informed in an evolving threat landscape.

Session 4: Introduction to Large Language Models and ChatBots
 26 June 2025; 15:00 (CEST)

This lecture will introduce chatBots: artificial intelligence tools that answer user questions and can also generate creative content upon request. The basic concepts underlying the operation of modern chatBots will be described. Additionally, some practical examples of chatbot usage and prompting techniques will be presented. The lecture is aimed at a general audience and it is very informal, no specific knowledge of computer science is required.

Session 5: Responsible AI: Shaping a better tomorrow

 26 June 2025; 15:45 (CEST)

How can we harness the power of generative AI to create a more equitable world? This lecture will explore the double-edged sword of rapidly evolving generative AI technology, examining both its promising opportunities and potential pitfalls. Through a series of engaging case studies, we will dive into critical issues surrounding generative AI, including: the perpetuation of stereotypes, misrepresentation of individuals and groups, the generation of dangerous or offensive content. Moving beyond these challenges, the discussion will centre on strategies to leverage this powerful technology for social and environmental good.
