This semester we are celebrating the 10th edition of the Arqus Cafés. This anniversary edition starts on 10 March and runs until 30 May.
What are the "Arqus Cafés"?
The Arqus Cafés are informal meetings where students and employees can meet either online or in person. The aim is to practise speaking skills in specific languages under the guidance of native speakers. The cafés offer participants a relaxed environment in which they can improve their language skills and expand their cultural understanding without the pressure of exams.
This began in spring 2020 as a digital initiative. Today, the cafés remain one of Arqus' most successful activities. The ninth edition, which ran from September to December 2024, offered 31 cafés in 14 languages: Arabic, Belarusian, English, French, German, Italian, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Spanish, Turkish, Ukrainian and Vietnamese. A total of 444 employees and students from the Arqus universities took part.
When does it start?
Registration will open at the beginning of March. To register, all you have to do is fill out the registration form. The meetings are then planned from March to the end of May.
Tutors wanted
The call for tutors is already open! If you would like to take part in the Arqus Café as a tutor, you can register here. All languages are welcome!
What do tutors do? They support and lead the conversation in their first or native language. Arqus Café tutors receive training, guidelines, topics and strategies for leading the cafés. In many cases, two "teachers" per language work together. The tutors can decide for themselves when the cafés take place. If you are interested, you can register at this link.
