Open Call: Arqus Seed Funding with focus on Artificial Intelligence/Digital Transformation and Green Deal/Climate Change
The Arqus European University Alliance brings together the University of Granada, the University of Graz, the University of Leipzig, the University of Padua, Vilnius University, the University of Minho, the University of Wrocław, the Université Lyon 1, the Université Lyon 3 and the Université de Saint-Étienne, all longstanding comprehensive research universities.
Purpose of the Call
This call aims to develop collaborations of excellence, to bring out scientific poles of international level and to develop capacities of research and expertise.
Consequently, the seed funding is made available to support the organisation of consortium meetings and other activities required to support the preparation of competitive joint projects and initiatives.
This call will finance up to ten joint research actions contributing to the establishment of medium or long-term cooperation. It is intended to support the emergence of new initiatives: thus, preliminary work activities intended to apply for another research funding programme will be supported.
The grant awarded will support networking activities focused on the fields of Artificial Intelligence/Digital Transformation and Green Deal/Climate Change to discuss, structure and write application(s) to:
- Horizon Europe funding programmes
- Binational funding programmes
- International funding programmes
Eligibility
All researchers affiliated to the University of Graz from post-doctoral researchers to full professors are eligible.
The research project(s) to be developed must involve participants of at least two Arqus universities (including the applicant’s institution) but may also have participants from universities not belonging to Arqus or from other research institutions or stakeholders.
The activities could consist in the organization of workshop(s) or other activities with Arqus partner(s). Travel and subsistence expenses costs for applicants, as well as workshop(s) organization expenses, could be funded by this call.
The selection of applicants will be based on the following criteria:
- Quality of the proposal, aims and objectives
- Joint research interest in the proposed topic
- In addition, an interdisciplinary approach to Artificial Intelligence/Digital Transformation and Green Deal/Climate Change is desirable
Funding
This grant aims to encourage the development of up to ten joint research action proposals. A maximum of 1000€/person and 2 persons/potential collaborative project will be awarded.

To ensure a swift start of this initiative, applications can be submitted immediately and will be processed on an ongoing basis. A response will be given within 3 weeks. Last opportunity to submit an application is 31 October 2023. The activity must be carried out until 30 November 2023.
When the available budget is spent, University of Graz will close the call sooner.
Reporting
Successful applicants will be required to submit a brief financial and qualitative report at the end of the project. This report will contain information on the activities carried out, the researchers that attended the meeting, the project idea/the call to which it is intended to respond, and the implemented budget.
